On the opposite side.
Developers are all good and well; we like them because they give us games. I give some of the developers brownie points for expanding and improving their communities recently. I’ve very proud of companies like EA and Capcom who have been bringing in more of their fans and communities (as some of us have discussed previously).
However, that being said, I do have issues with a few developers and producers. Now, some of them have been fantastic and are very open to comments and suggestions from fans. Yet others have very negative responses. I know that when you’re developing a game that you have a certain vision for it, but at the same time, by taking into account the wants of the fans, you create a stronger pull for that particular game.
So being rude and ignoring your fan-base is just silly and unintelligent. I’ve seen so much more support for games with teams that actually listen to their followers than those that disregard or overlook wants and opinions of the fans. The developers that actually pay some attention to their fans, either by developing their community or getting feedback for an in-development game, build a stronger foundation for future games. People remember those who are good to them, especially when it comes to forking out cash.
Granted, every developer is free to do what they wish with new IPs or franchises that they were able to get rights to. Truthfully, they have no need to listen to fans or criticizers. And sometimes, that’s the best choice, especially when it comes to certain games and silly people. At the same time, you don’t want to alienate the people that are your consumer base; they’re the people that will make you money.
So do as you feel, but be a little more wary of whom you piss off and how it will affect your game in stores.
